London - Monday, June 8 has been singled out as the most popular day of the year to purchase swimwear online, according to a new study.
Data published by fashion shopping platform Lyst claims today will be the day most women go online to purchase their summer bikini based on tracking search traffic, analysing 2014 sales in comparison to the same period in 2015 and monitoring recent stock uploads.
The online swimwear frenzy first began earlier this year, with February 22, 2015 highlighted as the day most consumers begin to start searching for swimwear online, followed by May 4, 2015, which saw bikinis searches begin to increase at a ‘dramatic rate.’
New data reveals what consumers will spend on swimwear this summer
According the new info graphic published by Lyst, which lists consumer online swimwear habits, shoppers are spending more on their bikinis this summer, with spend on luxury swim pieces increasing 32 percent to 174 dollars compared to this time last year. Demand for niche brands, like hand-crochet bikini label Kiini have also grown, with global searches for Kiini up 822 percent over the past year.
The data also revealed an increased appetite for more covered swimwear styles, as searches for high-waisted bikini bottoms increased 124 percent year on year, matching the global trend for more covered underwear. Search volumes for one-piece bathing suits also grew, increasing 56 percent year on year, with 45 percent of all women’s swimwear on Lyst consisting of one-pieced styles.
The study also listed the most popular colours for swimwear this summer, with black leading the way for both men and women as the most wanted colour. Lyst data reports are based on its analysis of over 1 million fashion products, over 150 million dollars in annual sales and 3 million monthly shoppers.
