Chris Moore is one of the most prominent names in catwalk photography. At the age of 84, he’s been shooting some of the world’s biggest fashion shows for over 60 years, which has granted him a special recognition award at the 2014 British Style Awards. This week a new exhibition at the Bowes Museum, in England, is set to recognize his contribution to the fashion industry once more by looking back at the highlights of his career.
Titled “Catwalking: Style through the lens of Chris Moore”, the exhibition is to feature 200 original photographs chosen by Moore himself from his extensive archive. The images depict key moments at legendary fashion shows from Yves Saint-Laurent, Chanel, Prada, Vivienne Westwood and Alexander McQueen, among many others. Some of the images will be accompanied by the original outfits.
Moore started his career in 1954, at the age of 20, assisting photographers like Henry Clarke and Cecil Beaton at Vogue. Since then, he has worked with all the leading newspapers in the UK and founded Catwalking.com, the first UK website dedicated to catwalk pictures. A lookback at his career, therefore, means looking back at the evolution of fashion, from the analogical to the digital, from the rebirth of haute couture to the rise of the modern day supermodel.
“‘Catwalking’ brings a rare insight into the fashion world, with previously unseen images and glimpses of behind-the-scenes at shows”, said the Bowes Museum in a statement.
”Catwalking: Style through the lens of Chris Moore” is set to open on July 7 and runs until January 6, 2019.
